The Problem With Good Enough
From The Playbook
I've noticed something about business over the years.
Most businesses don't get stuck because they're failing.
They get stuck because they're doing... well enough.
The bills are getting paid.
The team gets the work done.
Clients keep coming through the door.
Nothing feels broken enough to demand change.
And that's exactly what makes it so dangerous.
When something is obviously wrong, everyone sees it.
But "good enough" is much quieter.
It has a way of convincing you that nothing needs your attention.
Over time, you stop questioning the employee who's almost right for the role.
You stop improving the process that mostly works.
You stop looking closely at the numbers because they're "not bad."
None of those decisions feel significant in the moment.
In fact, they usually feel reasonable.
But business rarely stands still.
Every small compromise shapes what comes next.
Before long, the same bottlenecks are still there.
The same conversations keep happening.
The same goals are still sitting on next year's list.
I've come to believe that growth doesn't usually stop because of one big decision.
It slows down one "good enough" decision at a time.
That's why every owner has to be careful about what they're willing to accept.
Because acceptable has a way of becoming permanent.
And permanent has a way of becoming culture.
Good enough may keep the doors open.
But it rarely builds the business you set out to create.
Make Your Move
Ask yourself one question this week:
"What have I labeled as 'good enough' that I know could be better?"
Don't make a list of twenty things.
Just pick one.
Then take the first step toward improving it.
Small improvements have a way of changing the entire direction of a business.
Your Next Step
Sometimes it's difficult to recognize what you've slowly accepted because you're living with it every day.
That's one of the benefits of having an outside perspective.
If you're thinking about what's next for your business and wondering whether there's more potential than you're currently realizing, I'd love to have a conversation.
We'll learn more about your goals, where you want your business to go, and whether Maverick Growth is the right next step to help you get there.
If it is, we'll show you what that journey looks like.
