52 Things I Wish I Knew In My 20s
Jun 30, 2025At the age of 52, I have been an entrepreneur for over 25 years, sold over $150 million worth of services and have failed many more times than I succeeded. My failures did not define me but instead redirected me to having a “rich life.” Here are 52 lessons I learned over the past 52 years:
- Success = Achievement + Fulfillment
- Be nice to everybody
- Want what you want
- Keep a journal
- Time, Money, and Health are life’s tools – they don’t mean everything unless you don’t have one of them
- Relationships and Purpose are life’s riches – you will fully invest in them once you have life’s tools out of survival mode
- How you do one thing is how you do all things
- Be healthy and fit – physically, mentally, and spiritually
- Don’t compare your timeline with others
- All things in life can be systemized, and these systems will give you the freedom you desire
- Your future should always be greater than your past
- Embrace your story – past, present, and future
- Focus on making revenue recurring
- Confidence = Certainty – Uncertainty + Faith
- Be grateful for all that you have
- Don’t fear loss – everything you have is borrowed
- Who you marry will be your most important decision
- Prioritize 8+ hours of sleep
- Money is exchanged for value
- Don’t lend money to anyone
- Plan your day the evening before
- Know the difference between good and bad debt
- An asset grows in value AND produces cash flow
- Don’t trade your time for money - get your money working for you

- Ideas are worthless without action
- Your greatest gift sits right next to your greatest trauma
- Recognize in public, criticize in private
- Find the joy in helping others grow
- Your network creates your net worth
- Avoid perfectionism before taking action
- Your reputation will make you magnetic – show up on time, do what you say you’re going to do, finish what you start, and say please / thank you / I’m sorry
- Learn how to delight others with positive surprises
- Define your core values – personal and business
- Create a three-year vision – personal and business
