One Day at a Time Works Both Ways
From The Playbook
Most things happen slower than we think.
That’s true for growth, but it’s also true for drift.
Nobody wakes up one morning with a culture problem. Nobody suddenly becomes burned out or disconnected from the business they used to enjoy.
Usually, it happens little by little.
One decision. One compromise. One conversation that gets pushed off until next week.
We understand this when things are moving in the right direction. We know consistency compounds. We know trust is built over time. We know the small things we do every day eventually add up to something much bigger.
What we sometimes forget is that the opposite compounds too.
Most of the things we eventually call “big problems” started small enough to ignore.
A standard slipped a little. An employee wasn’t quite aligned. A process wasn’t working as well as it should. A conversation needed to happen, but there was always something more urgent.
And for a while, ignoring it worked.
The business kept moving. Clients kept coming. Life went on.
Until one day, that small thing wasn’t so small anymore.
That’s why I think it’s worth paying attention to the things that don’t feel urgent yet.
The habits we repeat, the standards we accept, the conversations we avoid, and the priorities we neglect are all becoming something.
For better or worse.
One day at a time works both ways.
The future of your business is usually being shaped by things that feel pretty insignificant today.
Make Your Move
Think about something small in your business that you’ve been telling yourself you’ll deal with “eventually.”
Then ask yourself:
If nothing changes, what does this look like a year from now?
You don’t have to fix everything this week. But there may be one small thing worth addressing before time makes it a much bigger one.
Your Next Step
The same principle works in the other direction too.
Small, intentional changes made consistently can completely change where your business is headed.
If you’ve been thinking about what you want the next stage of your business to look like, let’s have a conversation.
We’ll learn more about where you are today, where you want to go, and what you want to change along the way. Then we can talk about Maverick Growth, how we help owners move toward that next level, and whether it could be the right fit for you.
